Fascinating story based on real events
THE BOOK WOMAN OF TROUBLESOME CREEK is a novel which was inspired by the real historical blue-skinned people of Troublesome Creek, Kentucky.
This book fascinated me. It's about a group of people I had never learned about. It's also based on a real group of librarians that would travel by horseback, delivering books, magazines and news to its community's readers.
This story follows Cussy Mary or "Bluet", as her customers called her. She was a young woman born with the rare blood disorder that turned her skin blue. Bluet works as a traveling librarian, who tries to earn her community member's respect, all while encouraging education and providing reading materials for them.
I really enjoyed this story and found myself searching online for more information about the blue-skinned people of Kentucky!
