I very much enjoyed this book. I wasn’t expecting to learn so much and really enjoy the story. The book women of the Kentucky mountains in the 1930’s depression era were strong individuals. The main character Cussy was young, uneducated herself, but could read. Her desire to serve the people were strong and she learned to love them even though there were reasons for them to distrust her. I loved the support she received from her Dad and other book women that were her friends. Her Mama had died early, and her desire in life of being loved was met by a few generous individuals in her community. I will read more from this author. This book is a literary gem and I couldn’t put it down. I won this in a Bookish First contest.
