An Unbreakable Spirit!
This book made me feel so many emotions in the short span of time that I read it! Cussy is a Book Woman, delivering books on a mule to impoverished people around her area of living. She is a loveable and admirable character indeed! Cussy truly loves being a Book Woman and is so proud of her job. She deeply cares for her patrons and even helps them to slowly learn to read or just reads to them herself. There's also something special about Cussy...she has blue skin.
Reading this excerpt was a pleasure with the description of rural Kentucky, a brief history of the blues (which I didn't know much about), and Cussy's resiliency has already made me want to cheer her on for the rest of the book! Trigger Warning for a rape scene, which was brief yet awful. Seeing Cussy pick herself back up from that and continue with her passion was awe inspiring. I give this 4 stars so far, just because the beginning was a little slow for me. But other than that, I loved it!
