I immediately loved Bluet. The history about Blue people and what they were subject to made me grateful for the times I live in today. She was a young woman, poor, widowed, and a Blue which was the same as “colored” status. These are all traits that were held against her by some of the powerful towns people, yet out of her control. She was so kind to others by helping them read and caring so much when picking each person’s reading material. Her kindness went way beyond that with her care for the folks on her route. I couldn’t help but hope the best for this girl because of such unfair judgements by some of these towns people. Bluet was stronger than those that judged her and created such bonds with those she helped. They didn’t see her as a Blue, they saw her as a caring young woman.

I felt this story went a little slow and at times was a little bored reading it. I did love reading the history of Blue people as I had not heard of them before. If you like historical fiction, I recommend this book.
