Inspired by the blue-skinned people of Kentucky and the brave and dedicated Kentucky Pack Horse library service of the 1930s, the BOOK WOMAN OF TROUBLESOME CREEK tells the story of fictional character Cussy Mary Carter and her struggle as Pack Horse librarian while carrying the burden of her blue coloring. Along her treacherous route, Cussy is confronted by the dangers of her book routes, in addition to being subjected to the prejudice associated with the color of her skin.

Anyone who is a lover of books will absolutely love Kim Michelle Richardson’s novel. THE BOOK WOMAN OF TROUBLESOME CREEK is so different than any book I’ve ever read, and I was incredibly fascinated to learn about the blue-skinned people of Kentucky, who I didn’t even know existed! Richardson’s novel is powerful beyond words and tells the story of prejudice, family bonds, and the career of a Horse Pack librarian. This book was by no means an easy read, but it tells an incredible story of resilience and courage. THE BOOK WOMAN OF TROUBLESOME CREEK comes out Tuesday, and I highly recommend you add this one to your bookshelf.
