Kim Michele Richardson has written an extraordinary start to what can only be an exceptional novel set in the mountains of Kentucky in the 1930's and Roosevelt's Kentucky Pack Horse Library Project, fostered to bring reading materials to the remote sections of the Appalachians. You're immediately transported back in time to the hardscrabble life of those living in Troublesome Creek and other small places throughout the mountains, as well as the isolation, loneliness, and sheer need many of the inhabitants suffered from trying to hang on to the land their ancestors had left them.

Adding a twist to the novel, Richardson introduces the true blue-skinned people of Kentucky through her main character, Cussy Mary Carter, and the prejudices that ran rampant throughout many of the mountain people about these unusual folk. Being the very last of her "kind," Cussy seems set to be continually challenged for something she cannot change, but her love of books and knowledge and her position as the Book Woman of Troublesome Creek brings new meaning, courage, and strength to Cussy's future.

Would definitely want to read this wonderful novel!!!
