I don't really know what to expect

This first look was slightly confusing. I get that it is discussing a racial divide and prejudice and everything, but I'm just not sure where it's going. She was married for all of five seconds it seemed and now she's a widow? It leads me to believe she killed her abusive husband, but honestly I have no idea. The writing is a little hard to get through. I get that it is supposed to be less educated people, being as many of them cannot read, but I'm just not sure I want to be the one to wade through it when I can't even decipher the plot. If the book ends up being about how she got away and killed her abusive husband, I would probably be super interested. But after the first look, I just don't know what to expect.
