The Book Charmer by Karen Hawkins is a quirky but substantial story with some magical realism tossed in for good measure. I enjoyed the excerpt so much and I look forward to reading the novel in its entirety when it is released.
From what I have read, you have good characters, not without their flaws, trying to do the best they can. Grace is desperately trying to pay forward the kindnesses that Mamma G provided to her and her sister when they came to live with her as foster children. Now her sister has died, leaving her daughter, Daisy, in Grace’s care, and Mamma G has recently been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease. Grace is sacrificing it all for the sake of her family.
I was so touched by what I have read and I am anxious to learn more of the story.
