This story was fine. It would be hard for me to pick out any one thing that was really wrong with it. It just fell a little flat with me. The beginning was fabulous. I loved the setting, and getting to know the characters, and all of it. Somewhere just past the halfway point, I started to get really bored with it. And by the end, I was struggling to finish it. But I think a lot of it was just me, and I do feel this book deserves a read, especially if the description is one you find interesting.
Fatima came across as a spoiled, whiny princess, which in the beginning was fine, cause that's pretty much what she was. But she stayed that way. She didn't seem to go through any growth or character development until the last few pages. Hassan kind of did the same thing. He wanted to have all the attention. Any time they met a new character, especially new male characters, he got really whiny if they paid too much attention to Fatima. Super jealous and possessive, until he met someone, and then he acted as though Fatima were being ridiculous to be jealous. It got to be a bit much. I did still enjoy the author's style, for the most part, and will still look into reading her other novel (eventually novels, hopefully)
