This book really had a lush, enchanting story. I was really invested in the characters relationships and fates - and really had a few heart sToPpInG moments. Although parts felt like they dragged a bit at times and weren’t quite as interesting, the writing was very lyrical and beautiful. I also like the setting and cultural inspiration for the book, because it’s not something I’m sure ever been able to read in a fantasy novel before so that was kind of cool in my opinion. I found the story to be very compelling, and just overall liked it a lot. This is not as important - but I also think that the bird king has a really great, gorgeous cover - which honestly kind of reflects the books content!
