The Bird King is a historical fantasy that takes place during the 1400s. It follows a girl named Fatima, who is the concubine for a Sultan. Her best friend is Hassan, a map maker with the ability to alter reality. When the spanish come to negotiate, Fatima befriends a woman named Luz and she learns of Hassan's gift. Now Hassan and Fatima have to escape to save their lives.
Listen, I loved this book, I really liked how fantasy and religion really pulled together to make this book really say something. This book's core message really falls in line with my own views when it comes to life and religion and I think that's why I like it so much.
Fatima and all the other characters are raw and real. They're not likeable, they don't know what they're looking for, and they don't really know what they want. And isn't that like the rest of us? I love it when books makes their characters as real as the rest of us, it makes everything seem all the more amazing.
This book blew me away and I really think that it'll end up being something special.
