Magical Iberian story.
The fairytale, storybook quality of the language and the book's plot make this very enjoyable. I always enjoyed the stories of the "1,001 Nights" and there is that sense here, with princes and concubines.
I liked the character of Fatima, our clever concubine, and rooted for her and her fellow traveler Hassan. Their flight and various trials traveling across the land make the story a bit like an old-time movie serial. If you like the novels of Anthony Hope, there is a lot of that kind of courtly adventure here.
Some of the adventure or fighting might get a bit violent at times, but in the storybook context, I think most readers will be able to manage it. I would recommend this for anyone smart from middle school age on up.
