This book had several things that I adore in a book, a great and atmospheric setting, interesting historical themes and interesting characters. The only thing that was somewhat frustrating was the pacing, it seemed to drag in places but this did not overly detract from the positives. I was immersed in this setting and thoroughly enjoyed it.
I truly felt transported to the time and place based on the writing in this book. The characters interactions were well done and kept me engaged for most of the story. There were only a few parts that I felt my attention dragging and feeling the need to either put the book down or to skim a bit. Instead I plowed through and ultimately I’m glad that I stuck with it because I enjoyed this overall and would recommend it to anyone who loves atmospheric novels.
