DNF. Read about 25%. I don’t know what it was, but I just could not get in to this book. I could tell the writing was great and the characters would be compelling but the pace didn’t grab me and I found myself reaching for other books to fill my time. It doesn’t feel fair to critique it at all, because I didn’t get through enough of it, but I will say if you don’t enjoy historical fiction then you probably won’t enjoy this one, it reads heavy on the history part of the story, at least in the portion I read. I don’t know enough to know if the history was well researched or not. This will be a perfect fit for others, but I found myself skimming and wishing chapters were over, so I just can’t recommend this one to anyone I know right now.
