The Bird King takes a sweeping view from the outset, taking much of Europe into account along with the many layers of the sultan's court. Fatima's precarious status as a concubine, below the nobility yet potentially the mother of the sultan's child, should deliver interesting relationship dynamics, and the brief glimpse of Hassan's mapmaking power is very interesting.
