G. Willow Wilson is a modern day Scheherazade. The Bird King (after Attar's Simurgh, perhaps) seems to be a story she could have told to Shahryar and Dunyazad on any of a thousand and one nights. I am drawn to Hassan and his magic like Fatima, and I want to read Wilson's story as much as Fatima wants to explore the world around her.
