This book sounds facinating. I read historical fiction to learn. This is an era and subject I haven't read about before. The Spanish Inquisition is a dark spot on history. This was when there was only only one church for Christians, the Catholic Church which was more political than actual church.
Abuses of power and atrocities abounded at this time. Common sense today tells you anyone will admit to anything if tortured enough. I read to try and understand past thinking and still can't determine if they knew it then but just didn't care or place any value on human life. How can anyone be considered a Saint if they've burnt people at the stake?
This book has not only history that I love but also mysticism which I firmly believe in. It's obvious to me that God speaks to and through mystics so why wasn't it then? Have we really evolved that much or were these evil people who used the guise of religion to abuse others?
This is a book I will buy and devour to try to answer some of the questions I continue to ask about the dark ages. It's also a subject new to me so I hope it helps me understand.
