Fantasy, Historical Fiction, and a Little Bit of Magic

"The Bird King" is a new fantasy/historical fiction novel by famed author, G. Willow Wilson. Set in 1491 Grenada, we first meet the characters of Fatima, a concubine in the royal court, and Hassan, the palace mapkeeper. Although not my favorite genre, the beginning of this novel has me captivated. The descriptive language used in this novel sets the tone in such a way that the reader can feel the connection of friendship between these two characters, can smell the scents, and can certainly visualize the scenery. This appears to be a beautifully-written novel that fans of Wilson will devour.
