This book has a concept that seems like it should be one that I pick up and love. The author isn’t a bad writer, the concept is unique, and upper society novels are always a fun read in my opinion. However, this novel just bored me. There wasn’t enough happening to keep my attention. The pacing did not do it for me and unnecessary descriptions of every little thing had me skimming parts of the book.

Another major issue of mine was that I did not connect or like the main character. I love a good character driven novel, but Camellia was vain and over obsessed with being the favorite. I wanted to enjoy her, but I often times found myself rolling my eyes at her lack of intelligence and true character development.

Try this book for yourself if it interests you, but if you’re on the fence and typically don’t love YA, this probably won’t be the book for you.
