The Belles by Dhonielle Clayton follows Camellia, who is a Belle. They can give people “beauty” because people are born colorless. To be honest, this book lived up to expectations. Going into this book I was very skeptical. I picked up this book because I thought the cover was beautiful and I was recommended this by a friend with similar reading tastes. My expectations were low because other than looking presentable I don’t really take a lot of time with my hair, clothes, or makeup. This meant that I was not really interested in this world. However, I did my best to go into this with an open mind. While the story was engaging and plot moved along I never really got interested in the world, characters, or conflict. This meant that the book read rather flat for me. I think that this book was a really good book and I would recommend it, but not for me.
