While I found the romance a little cliche and the plot twist slightly foreshadowed, I really enjoyed THE BELLES overall. Clayton’s world-building and writing was definitely compelling and lush. I really enjoyed all the descriptions and premise behind the world, though I did sometimes find it a bit hard to understand exactly what was going on because of how descriptive it was.
I found the romance and its twist predictable but it didn’t really overshadow the things I liked about the book. Like I said before, while I did find the twist a bit predicstbale, the ending makes me want to pick up the sequel! I do think that THE BELES is a great start to what will surely become a classic YA fantasy.
