Great Fantasy that pushes the Definition of Beauty
The Belles by Dhionelle Clayton was one of my favorite books that I have gotten to read this year. I really enjoyed the whimsical, flowery magic, and I especially enjoyed the concept of the Belles themselves. The main character, Camellia, has a very strong personality, and I liked how she defied the standards of 'beauty' that her society holds in such high regards. I'm definitely interested in seeing what happens in the next book. The writing style was very fast paced, and I definitely hope that the second book will be just as enjoyable as the first.
The one thing I didn't really care too much for was the ending, which was kind of predictable and cliche. I was hoping it would have ended with something more unique. If you enjoyed The Jewel by Amy Ewing, you would probably really like this book.
