I had my doubts about this beautifully written slow-burning novel at first, but I was happily surprised by the end. The world that The Belles has produced is completely breathtaking! A beautiful and unique world set in a fantasy New Orleans where unique beauty is prized above all else, and a very relatable main character discovers the ugliness of the world she's been living in.
My only big criticism is that, like all slow-burning stories, it only started to get very good towards the end of the novel. The sole aim of this first book in the series was to establish the world and develop the characters so that the next book could dive into their story, and I absolutely can not wait for the sequel.
