This introduction caught my attention right away. It sounds different and unique. I love that the setting was chosen to be new Orleans, one of my favorites to read about. Beauty is always one of those desired communities, and exploring dark consequences of that search even in A fantasy setting sounds amazing. I loved the cover as well.
