I remember when I first heard about this book. I was thoroughly excited to see more and more books written by people of color. I immediately fell in love with the cover - a beautiful cover with a woman of color. Even though the amount of books from POC are small, the numbers are slowly growing.

The first chapter immediately wrapped me in the story. I love how every detail has been written so delicately but the language doesn't come off too flower-y. I see a women who is dedicated to their potential future of becoming a Belle - and I found myself immediately rooting for them.

By the second chapter, I was already star-struck. But now I get to see how Camellia enchants her way into turning a grey-skin child into being beautiful. I love that, with Camellia's thoughts, we get to see that this talent wasn't something that came naturally - just like all the other girls, they took years to get where they are. I love that extra tidbit of information. It shows that even successful people have to work to get where they are.

And the child's hesitation on becoming 'beautiful' - it made me wonder... why does she hesitate when so many others accepted this privilege (from what I presume of the reaction from the crowd) with gusto. I want to know why. I want to know how this child will come out when the flower blooms.

The two chapters ended too fast. I want more.
