Dare I say, I think I may have enjoyed this sequel even more than the original Lavender House. My one complaint of Lavender House was that the focus was too heavy on the characters’ homosexuality, rather than letting the reader get to know them on a deeper level. The Bell in the Fog fixed this issue by rounding out the characters, specifically Andy. I loved learning about Andy’s past life in the Navy and relationships that came back into his life. James and Helen were such interesting characters to get to know. I did not particularly like James but I thought his character gave a good perspective of what it was like to be gay in the 1950s and in the Navy. The storyline was completely immersive. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys historical cozy mysteries. I sincerely hope this turns into a long running series and I will read every book.
