I didn't read Lavender House, but the preview of this book had piqued my interest. This isn't the type of book I would have picked up on my own, so I was excited to see how our protagonist Andy will navigate through the dangers in the Navy and in the gay bars.
This was an ok read for me but not one I would reread. I was attentive to Andy and somewhat attached to the other characters. The writing style is not one that pulled me into the story or one that kept me glued to the book. The plot was slightly dragging for me though the mystery at the end felt rushed and anticlimactic. I did appreciate the author's attention to detail when describing life during this time period, especially for gays in the military.
Fans of mystery and history might enjoy this story more than I did. Overall, I do recommend the book and will likely be reading the rest of the series to broaden my tastes.
