Andy Mills is trying to get his PI business going, to leave his cop past behind and be trusted by the queer community. But when an old lover from his past in the navy is threatened with blackmail, Andy struggles to find justice and to know when to stop investigating, before he gets himself killed…

This is a great sequel! The mystery was interesting and mood one of consistent quiet tension, with a few exciting spikes of danger. The historical setting and circumstances of these crimes force Andy to think deeply about justice and when to turn a blind eye to protect others from a system that fails them, harms them.

Andy’s new friendship with Lee opens doors for his investigation and offers a thread of hope through the entire book—no matter how many roadblocks, steps backward, or cruel realities of the world, little by little connections were made, firmly rooting Andy in the community.

My heart melted every time Andy and Gene had time alone together. This slow-burn romance was such a delight. I don’t often reread mysteries but I would definitely crack this book open again just to visit with these amazing characters.
