The Bell in the Fog is a great historical mystery about an openly queer detective in the 1950s and the disappearance of an old flame. The cover gives it a great noir tone and that tracks into the story. The main character is Detective Evander “Andy” Mills a former police officer who is trying to grow his PI business. The problem is a lot of people are afraid to talk to cops, so it's been tough for him. Along the way, a lot of his past comes back to haunt him and his time in the Navy is looked at as well. Andy is such a great character and a really stand-up guy. Actually, most of the characters in the book are very cool. The plot is great and has it all, from corrupt cops to shocking betrayals, you will find it here. I am not familiar with Lavender House which I guess is another book with many of the same characters. Sounds like I will need to pick that one up right away.
