“The Bell in the Fog” by Lev AC Rosen (author of Lavender House!) Genre: Vintage Queer Noir. Location: San Francisco, California, USA. Time: 1952.

First, it’s by Lev AC Rosen! So it’s already a must-read!

Evander Mills (Andy) was a detective until he was fired after being caught in the raid of a gay bar. Now he’s a private detective. His business, Amethyst Investigations, is above The Ruby, San Francisco’s most accepting gay bar. And you might say Andy is San Francisco’s most accepting gay private investigator. When an old flame asks him for help, Andy can’t say no-he needs the money.

Rosen’s prose is so on-point San Francisco 1950s Noir! Not overdone-just the right, light touch. The setting is perfect, the plot seems great for the genre. Even the title pulls me in-I imagine San Francisco fog and hear a muffled bell. Just from this quick look, I’m guessing this will be a 5-star read for me.
