This isn't a genre I tend to read. I'm not a fan of present-tense stories, and nothing about the sample changed my mind on that. It appears this is a sequel of a book I didn't read. Perhaps it could be a standalone novel, but the description isn't something that makes me want to read more to find out. Also, I didn't really care for the writing style.
