I haven't read the first part of this series, but it seems as though it can be read as a standalone. I didn't like the author's first book, Lavender House. Though I must admit that the author's storytelling skills are good. I would want to learn more about Andy's involvement in the blackmail investigation. But I got turned off by the queerness of the narrative.
