This cover is atmospheric and sets the tone of this historical thriller. Andy is a refreshing twist on the stereotypical down-on-his luck PI. The writing is immersive, helping me see unique characters and voices clearly. I felt a lot of tension from the various threats in this historical thriller set in the heart of the queer community. Surprisingly, it's tenderness and kindness that comes off the pages most as Andy attempts to help people--instead of other books that tend to focus on the seedy criminal underbelly of society and the sad, downtrodden PI. I easily want to root for Andy, both in his professional career and his romantic life. I'm getting book one right now and can't wait to read this sequel!
