I grew up in the time when twilight was just a book before the movie made it go crazy. I enjoyed the books. I enjoyed the Vampire Diaries and the Originals.
What does all that have to do with this book? Well it takes place in New Orleans. The writing was very Victorian in the flow of words, inflection, and tone. This is perfect for the time of the book but if you aren't use to it then it can become very tedious to read.
The main character felt a bit bloodthirsty and maybe a tad bad from the get to. She wants power and control and that's clear.
I really wanted to love this story and perhaps at some point I will give it another try when my brain is up for the language.
Overall the cover is beautiful but brings back twilight memories.
