The only thing I hate about this book is the fact that I have to wait so long for the second one. I devoured this book. It’s the most well written story about otherworldly creatures that I have read in a long time.
What first drew me in was the setting and time period. New Orleans has character and it’s neat to see that throughout. The time period is perfect for showing that Celine is a strong independent woman who is throwing societies rules to the wind and paving her own way. It makes me love her personality so much more.
I enjoyed the friendships between Celine and Pippa as well as Odette. I like when friendship is as important as other aspects.
The romance between characters was written so that you can admire their relationship and feel connected to them. It isn’t thrust upon the reader. It develops as the story goes on, which is much more realistic and relatable.
I enjoyed the different characters’ perspectives. I loved being able to read the antagonists thoughts and actions and then having to guess who it was. Also the information given in the end is amazing.
Renee Ahdieh was able to give details throughout, answer questions to satisfy curiosity and then give just a taste of new information that makes you want nothing more than to read the next book. It’s a beautiful combination of immortals, history, romance and suspense.
