Ah I’m so sad that I didn’t love this book more. I devoured all of Renee Ahdieh’s previous books & so I think my expectations were high.
New Orleans + vampires isn’t quite an original premise for me personally, but I was hoping for a unique spin from The Beautiful. However, it all felt like a story I’ve heard many times before. The descriptions & atmosphere was all there, but the plot could’ve literally been dropped into The Vampire Diaries & would’ve fit. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the Vampire Diaries. I just wanted something that felt more original from The Beautiful & perhaps we will see that in the sequel, because a lot was left unanswered. I will say that I don't think I'm convinced to continue this series, and will wait to see what new book comes from Renee Ahdieh next! She is a phenomenal author that I will revisit. This review is more of a personal preference regarding a sub genre saturated in vampire stories.
