New Orleans, murder, dressmaker and the supernatural all topics which caught my attention. This novel is a nice blend of murder mystery, the occult and fashion with a touch of romance. The main character, Celine Rousseau came to America to escape her past and quickly becomes immersed in the fringes of New Orleans society during Carnival Season. Through her connection to one of the murder victims and her talents as a dressmaker her life experiences quickly leave the walls of the convent where she resides. Celine keeps being drawn into the world of Sebastien Saint Germaine, Odette and their circle of friends and all the mystery that surrounds them.

Strong female friendships develop with both Pippa and Odette who seem so different yet both become very important to Celine. Both Sebastien and Michael frustrate and fascinate her and they have a rivalry which now seems to include her. Characters are well developed and strong personalities emerge which really add to the story.

The author does a beautiful job of drawing the reader into the lushness of New Orleans. Her descriptions of the fashions, clothing details and dressmaking skills are all an added bonus to the plot. She also added to the intrigue of the Count of St Germaine and his possible immortality - a favorite historical character of mine.
