Meh! I found it very boring and somewhat contrived. It was set in the 1800s, but the characters didn’t act, think, or speak like they were from the 1800s. I feel like the author could have made this a modern tale and it could have been more enjoyable. I felt like the “historic” aspect of the book was forced.

I also became bored with the writing because I felt like I was reading the same chapter over and over again. Like, the point of the novel was not progressing.

Bastien and Celine—two people who must be together because they are attractive, one is a vampire, and another is turned on by dark creatures. It must mean they have to be together! I also found it so annoying how Celine would constantly repeat her internal thoughts and feelings about Bastien to the reader—we get it! He’s dangerous! Ladadeeda!

Finally, the murder mystery aspect was pretty cool. I just don’t know if it was executed well enough. For me, of course. These are all my opinions. I hope you can go pick this book up if you’re a huge fan of vampires myths/legends, as well as sexual tension between the main characters.

I probably won’t continue the series :/ Best of luck to the author though!
