Actual= 3.5 stars
WARNING= MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD
Ok so I was really captured by this book. I binged it in one day (against my own will- I just couldn’t put it down) because the plot was really engaging for me. I liked Celine, Michael, and Bastian a lot. I can see some Twilight connections in the whole werewolf vs vampire thing brought up at the end (presumably Michael is a werewolf and Bastian now a vampire). However I did love love love the banter between Bastian and Celine. I didn’t like that Bastian himself wasn’t a vampire, like I can’t be scared or intimidated by his devil ness when he’s human (well I guess he is now so that solves that for me lol). But my major reason for knocking this down from a 4 to a 3.5 is the ending! I’m still left confused!!! Maybe this is on purpose as a cliffhanger but I’m utterly frustrated on these points: I still don’t know what the symbols mean that were left on the bodies- I know they’re Carthaginian but that doesn’t help me deduce them. Celine does, but I want able to understand. And the main villain is Emilee (I forget how her name is spelled)?! Why would she want to kill her brother and uncle? And pretend to be dead for so long? And what did she mean when she said that “Celine almost figured it out”?! Does this mean that Celine knows her IRL? That makes me think then that she’s under an alias like maybe she’s pretending to be one of the convent girls or something? Idk I’m just confused! And I lowkey don’t like then that Luca is a bad guy by default for being w her because I liked him from the short interaction we had. I need to know these things!!!
