A Unique Take on Vampire/Murder Mystery
Celine is an interesting FMC with secrets in her past and she struggles with the darkness inside her, and in that way she’s very relatable. Bastien is an enigma at first, but as his secrets come to light, his appeal as a love interest increases. Bastien’s gang, his uncle’s hench-people, are a diverse group with individual eccentricities that endeared them to me. For the first half of the book, I actually expected the story to play out in the usual vampire/murder mystery trend. I kept reading because I understand there are various ways to make an oldie new. One aspect of this book that I feel is rarely used is the mystery antagonist’s chapters. Some of them were a bit meandering, but the use of insight into an unknown character was unique. The various twists at the end made this story entertaining, and after the epilogue, I am wildly curious what happens next, so I will definitely be continuing this series!
