Vampires. New Orleans. Two of my absolute favorite things in the world, bar none. In this dark, beautiful story, Renee Ahdieh, author of “The Wrath and the Dawn”, has crafted a novel that will transport you to a dark, luscious world and reclaim vampires from the travesty called “Twilight.”

Our heroine is Celine Rousseau, a girl coming from Europe to attend a convent school in New Orleans. Celine has a past and has come to New Orleans to reinvent herself, a plan that doesn’t go so smoothly when she meets Sebastien, the leader of La Cour des Lions, which is a secret society whose glamourous mien draws Celine in.

While Celine is enjoying this new, enthralling existence, she begins to relax and let her guard down, even forgetting her past a bit until a rash of horrible deaths take place that make Celine question everything she ever knew about herself and makes her suspect that the dashing Sebastien is the killer everyone is searching for.

I don’t want to give too much away, but if you enjoy vampires, if you love New Orleans and if you are in search of a lush, atmospheric story, this book is for you. A solid win by Renee Ahdieh.
