First let me start by saying that I haven't read a vampire based book since the Twilight Saga.....if you call that vampire based lol. So when I seen Renee Ahdieh release the cover and sliver of detail about the book on her instagram I was thoroughly intrigued. I read the excerpt and let me just say it DID NOT DISAPPOINT!!!!!! It left me wanting more from the first page. \
First off anything based in NOLA is gonna be epic because the city is full of mystery and stories in real life anyway.
Celine' is already covered in mystery as she is sailing from Paris to New Orleans and the reason behind her setting sail is clipped so you're already left trying to figure out what she did that was so terrible in Paris that her father sent her on a ship to another country to be married off if a bachelor became available. Then in a short period of time she meets this woman who seems 'off ' .... not in a bad way but more questions begin to form "Who is this woman?" "why did she quote Hamlet to a Hamlet lover?" ...." is she a vampire that can read minds?" "is she a vampire?" .... of course all you get to read about is the meet because that's where it cuts off :(. Though a young woman was murdered by an obvious vampire Celine' is intrigued and really wants to meet up with this woman who seemed to know her without knowing her....if that makes sense. You get a tiny glimpse into the mind of this "mysterious" man Celine' sees while in a carriage headed to a convent of all places in the middle of Mardi Gras season no less haha. Who knows maybe I too will travel to these darkened alleys to catch a glimpse of this mysterious good looking 20 something yr old man with gray eyes.
I'm rating it a 4 out of 5 right now because I want more .... correction I NEED MORE!!!
