I really, really enjoyed this book. I am a huge fan of Beauty and the Beast and love to read retellings.

The poor Beast of Beswick had been horribly disfigured from war, and upon his return (after struggling just to stay a live) his family, friends, and the society he left to protect shunned him. No wonder he refuses to be seen and is grumpy and cruel.

Astrid is a headstrong, super feminist, but in desperate need of a husband to counter the machinations of her greedy uncle and the man who ruined her reputation, so that her sister doesn't fall victim.

Add it all together with a pinch of saltiness and you get true love. What a wonderful and fun ride this was. The characters felt real and I was solidly behind them. I am happy to have been given a chance to read this book.
