This is a classic mystery book about a vicious attack on a young woman (Emma) who is alone in a house except for the small children she is babysitting. She survives the attack and the story picks up twenty years later. Emma has become mentally impaired by the attack and is cared for by her sister Jamie who has a teenage daughter of her own. The attacks begin again and the book is essentially about finding out who is responsible for the recent attacks and also whether or not there is any connection between the past and now.
The pros:
1. The writing is good and the characters are interesting.
2. There are many twists and turns in the plot to keep you turning pages,

The cons:
1. The whole idea of the babysitter attack is tired and cliche.
2. Emma's "impairment" reads a lot like a person who is autistic which wouldn't
happen as a result of an intruders attack.
3. The ending wasn't great. It wasn't predictable but it wasn't great either.

In summary, it was an average book. It had some strengths but ultimately, it is forgettable.
