While I must admit that with the prologue of a teen Jamie wanting to go to party was a bit cliché, I was surprised to see how the story continued. I had expected to see a teenage Jamie deal with the change of her popular sister into someone who needed to be cared for, but the story jumps twenty or so years into the future, when Jamie has a child of her own. Loss seems to follow Jamie around, and after a spooky dream finds that she has lost her mother too. Then when another babysitter is attacked, the mystery is set up perfectly, and all the stakes are high due to Jamie's daughter being a part-time babysitter like many girls her age. It is high-stakes from the beginning, but I would say the general introduction to the characters has been done many times before. However I think seeing the feelings of the adult Jamie and how they may be different after twenty years of consideration, is interesting at the least.
