Hala Alyan's writing is always so beautiful. This text focuses on the intricacies of familial relationships across time and place. Set in Syria, Lebanon and the US this novel is an intergenerational story of love, loss, and acceptance.
The author's writing style is The prose it so beautiful. I love the names and places that are shared and not explained and you have to tie the different relationships together. It is reminiscent of the style of Salt Houses in that it's a story about a family and we get to read different chapters from different perspectives.
There is a beauty in the tension and the love that is explored throughout the entire novel.
Just as you get lost in a certain part of the story, the next section will take you to another time and place, the skipping back and forth through time is a unique element that keeps you reading to learn more!
