I initially liked the writing, though it felt a bit dark, but Part 1 quickly became a bit confusing due to many characters and their interconnectedness. There was something a bit tiresome as well in the way some things were described - given the length of this novel, I'm not sure it will hold my attention so I'm holding off on tackling it for now despite my love of novels set in the Middle East.
