I won a copy of The Animals at Lockwood Manor in a Bookish First Fiction contest last month. I was so excited to win this book because it sounded intriguing.
Unfortunately, I just could not get into this book. I read to the halfway book and gave up. I felt like this book went on forever. I rarely give up on a book but I just couldn't finish it.
I was also confused with the chapters switching between the two female characters at first. I think it would be helpful if the chapters had the character's name along with the chapter number.
I did love the idea of the story and the setting sounded fascinating as well as the plot. I just could not get past all the build-up and details. I liked the two main characters very much. I also liked the household staff. I enjoyed the descriptions of all of the stuffed and saved specimens in the museum as well.
