I was so disappointed in this book or perhaps just disappointed in the advertising. Yes, collections from a Natural History museum are transported out of London to a large manor in the country during WWII to protect them from the Blitz. But the animals in this collection are mostly a side story. The book is more about a young, flighty curator who seems unable to make a rational decision, constantly obsesses about the collection and allows herself to become involved with the daughter of the manor who seems unstable at best and mad at worst. I kept reading to find out the mystery of the house that is causing insanity among its residents thinking that the story must, at some point, redeem itself. No, it’s just a depraved Lord and his accomplice house keeper. It’s an insult to compare this book to anything written by Kate Morton
