Historical fiction is not my favorite genre, but the first chapter of The Animals at Lockwood Manor was very intriguing! Hetty is a very likable character; she genuinely wants to become a professor despite the hardships she's faced as a woman in her field. To make matters worse, her adoptive mother never showed her attention or love and disapproves of her career. Based on the description, it sounds like the story will get a lot more interesting in Lockwood Manor! I don't love the cover but it does seem to convey the time period and the animals that are part of the plot.
